The Buildhub AcidGuard Chemical-Resistant Cement is a potassium silicate-based cementitious material designed for the specific demands of industrial environments where Portland cement-based products would rapidly fail due to chemical attack from acids, aggressive organic compounds, and concentrated salt solutions. Potassium silicate cements achieve their chemical resistance through a fundamentally different binding chemistry to Portland cement — rather than calcium silicate hydrate (which is vulnerable to acid attack that dissolves the calcium-bearing phases), potassium silicate cements form acid-stable silicon dioxide networks that resist dissolution in all common mineral and organic acids.
AcidGuard provides resistance to dilute and concentrated hydrochloric acid, sulphuric acid (up to 70% concentration), nitric acid, phosphoric acid, acetic acid, citric acid, and a broad range of organic solvents at ambient temperatures. This chemical resistance profile makes it the material of choice for industrial floor toppings and tile bedding in chemical manufacturing and processing plants, pickling line floors and walls in metal processing, food processing floors subject to aggressive cleaning and spillage, battery storage rooms, and electroplating facility linings.
AcidGuard is a two-component system — a powder component packed with the silicate activator liquid in a separate bottle, with a defined mixing ratio that must be followed precisely to achieve the specified chemical resistance. Incorrect mixing ratios that result in either an excess or deficiency of activator will compromise chemical resistance performance. Full mixing and application instructions, including pot life guidance at different ambient temperatures, are provided with every unit.
Note: AcidGuard is not recommended for prolonged immersion in hydrofluoric acid or strong alkali solutions above pH 12 — alternative chemical-resistant systems are available from Buildhub for these specific exposure conditions.
