The Buildhub CarbonFix Carbon Capture Cement represents the frontier of sustainable cement technology — a product that incorporates CO₂ permanently captured from industrial exhaust streams as an active binder component within the cement matrix, achieving a net-zero embodied carbon profile while maintaining the 52.5N strength class performance that demanding structural applications require. CarbonFix is manufactured through a proprietary mineralization process in which gaseous CO₂ from partnered industrial carbon capture facilities is reacted with calcium-bearing precursor materials to form calcium carbonate mineral phases that contribute to the cementitious binder system — permanently sequestering the CO₂ as a stable solid mineral rather than releasing it to the atmosphere.
The embodied carbon accounting for CarbonFix is verified by an independent third party in accordance with EN 15804 and the Carbon Trust’s Product Carbon Footprint Standard. The CO₂ sequestered in the cementitious mineral phases — calculated on a per-tonne basis verified by analytical methods — is subtracted from the process emissions associated with cement production, arriving at the net-zero certified embodied carbon figure. This independently verified carbon accounting is documented in the Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) that accompanies every batch of CarbonFix.
Structural performance is not compromised by the carbon mineralization process — CarbonFix meets EN 197-1 CEM I 52.5N requirements in full, with 28-day compressive strengths consistently above 55 MPa in factory QA testing. Early strength development is equivalent to standard CEM I 52.5N, making CarbonFix a direct substitution for standard Portland cement in any application without mix design modification.
Buildhub CarbonFix is aimed at construction projects with net-zero carbon targets, public sector construction with embodied carbon procurement requirements, and contractors building their capability to demonstrate carbon performance to clients and specifiers. Full project-level embodied carbon documentation support is available from Buildhub’s sustainability team.
