The Buildhub ShotBlast Shotcrete Cement is formulated for the specific requirements of dry-process sprayed concrete applications — tunnel primary and secondary lining, slope and rock face stabilization, mining and shaft support, swimming pool shell construction, and repair shotcreting — where the cement must perform consistently under the demanding conditions of pneumatic projection, accelerator dosing, and rapid early strength development required by these applications.
Dry-process shotcrete requires a cement that flows reliably through nozzle equipment without lump formation or bridging, reacts predictably with liquid accelerator dosing at the nozzle to achieve the immediate stiffness needed for overhead and vertical application without sagging, and develops sufficient 1-hour strength to support subsequent passes of material in tunnel lining construction without collapse of the fresh layer. ShotBlast’s particle size distribution, surface area, and chemical composition are all optimized around these specific performance requirements.
The accelerator compatibility of ShotBlast is formally tested and documented for all primary alkali-free shotcrete accelerator systems used in UK and European tunneling practice — providing confidence to shotcrete engineers specifying the cement that the accelerator dosage models used in mix design will translate reliably to field performance. Alkali-free accelerators are specified in modern tunneling practice to eliminate the health risks associated with the traditional sodium silicate and sodium aluminate accelerators previously used.
ShotBlast achieves a 1-hour strength of 1.0-2.0 MPa with accelerator at standard dosage, 8-hour strength exceeding 10 MPa, and 28-day strength of 42.5 MPa — a strength development profile that meets the requirements of EN 14487 for sprayed concrete in structural applications. Full spray parameter guidance and accelerator dosage optimization data are available from Buildhub’s tunneling technical team.
