The Buildhub FrostGuard External Render Finish Cement is a factory-engineered single-component render system developed for maximum durability in the UK and North European external climate — an environment that combines the freeze-thaw cycling, wind-driven rain, and UV exposure that together represent the most demanding combination of weathering forces that external renders face. FrostGuard’s three-component performance system addresses each of these environmental challenges directly: air-entrainment provides freeze-thaw resistance, polymer modification provides crack resistance and flexibility, and an integral hydrophobic system provides water-repellent surface performance that minimizes water absorption and accelerates surface drying after rain.

Frost damage in external renders results from the volumetric expansion of water as it freezes within the pore structure of the hardened render. Air-entrained renders contain a system of discrete microscopic air voids that provide pressure relief for expanding ice, preventing the internal stress that would otherwise cause progressive spalling and surface disintegration through repeated freeze-thaw cycles. FrostGuard’s air content is factory-controlled to the 4-6% range that provides optimal freeze-thaw protection without compromising compressive strength to levels that would affect durability in impact and abrasion scenarios.

FrostGuard is supplied in 12 standard through-colors covering the most popular UK external render palette, with full compatibility with Buildhub mineral pigment systems for bespoke color production. The through-color eliminates the need for external paint application, reducing long-term maintenance requirements and providing a more durable surface color that does not peel or flake as surface-applied paints can. Colors are UV-stable mineral oxide based, maintaining appearance through prolonged sun exposure.
