The Buildhub EcoLow Low-Carbon Cement is the flagship product of Buildhub’s sustainable construction range — a cement designed from the ground up to address the construction industry’s most significant embodied carbon challenge without compromising the structural performance that building codes and project specifications demand. By replacing 50% of Portland clinker with a carefully calibrated blend of certified supplementary cementitious materials (SCMs) including GGBS, calcined clay, and limestone filler, EcoLow delivers approximately 45% lower embodied CO₂ per tonne compared to CEM I whilst meeting 42.5N strength class requirements at 28 days.
The SCM blend in EcoLow is not a simple single-material substitution but a scientifically optimized combination that leverages the complementary reactivity profiles of its components. GGBS provides latent hydraulic activity that develops strength progressively over 28 to 90 days. Calcined clay (metakaolin) provides rapid early pozzolanic reactivity that compensates for the slower early strength contribution of GGBS. Limestone filler improves fresh concrete workability and contributes to early microstructure densification. Together, these materials produce a cement system with lower embodied carbon and equal or superior long-term durability compared to straight Portland.
EcoLow is suitable for all standard structural applications including foundations, slabs, walls, columns, and precast elements where a minimum 28-day strength class of 42.5N is required. It is not suitable for applications requiring rapid strength gain within the first 24 hours, where Buildhub RapidSet or a higher clinker-content product should be specified instead.
All Buildhub EcoLow production batches are accompanied by third-party verified embodied carbon declarations in accordance with EN 15804 for use in project-level carbon accounting.
